Welcome to "Catty Remarks"

Greetings, and welcome to "Catty Remarks", my blog about Hobe Sound Animal Protection League and "all things catty." Come with me as I spend a bit of a time as a “fly on the wall” at Caring Fields Animal Sanctuary, our beautiful facility in Palm City, FL where more than 150 cats live in free-roaming, yet protected space in the safety and comfort of our no-kill shelter. Under the loving care of our small staff and our large group of dedicated volunteers, the cats of HSAPL live happy, comfortable lives. Many are adopted to forever homes, but others live out their lives in the comfort and peace that is Caring Fields.

So, just exactly who is Hobe Sound Animal Protection League and how does a small non-profit organization that relies solely on the generosity of donors provide food, shelter and medical care for 150 cats year after year? You can find out right here, in "Catty Remarks." It really is an incredible story that you won't want to miss. From event-planning to scooping litter boxes, each day brings new opportunities and new challenges to the volunteers and staff at HSAPL. Far from being hum-drum, lives are saved and, sadly, lost, as cats from a variety of circumstances land on our doorstep in need of help.

This blog will be a place for you to comment and recount your own stories as well. My posts will provide a starting-point, but I hope that you will jump in and share your thoughts about all things cat-related. There is always more to learn, and definitely something to smile about, when it comes to the fascinating, inscrutable, amusing, Felis catus, better known as the domestic cat.

So, come with me and take a peek behind the scenes. The cats are eager to share their stories with you.

  1. Taking that first tour of Caring Fields in Palm City was the best thing I have done. To become part of an organization that truly cares 100% about the rescue of cats is what we all love. Growing/Building and finding wonderful homes is what it's all about.
Fostering has been very rewarding, I think everyone should try this. See if your not hooked and the feeling of helping a Cat move to it's forever home, never to be abused or neglected again is a feeling you will welcome. This allows those Cats to continue their stories into the future for the rest of their happy lives.
I'll be adding some of my happy foster stories of adoptions soon.

  5. What a great idea! Thanks, Shannon for taking on " The Blog"! Good job. HSAPL has been totally invaluable in eduacating me & supporting my efforts doing TNR. An amazing group of volunteers! And it all began for me when I began feeding a few adorable kitties in a park & Polly said that if you feed, you MUST trap/spay/neuter. How do I do that? Hah! HSAPL gave me some traps and thus it began...
